Bandits Killed as Troops Foil Attack on Niger Communities

Nigerian troops have successfully repelled a three-day siege on Kukoki and Sarari villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, by a large group of bandits who were bent on terrorising the communities.

It was  gathered that a joint force comprising troops from Alawa and Erena alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Shiroro LGA were mobilised to confront the bandits. A fierce gun duel erupted between the two sides at Lolo village, located near Alawa.

The encounter resulted in the death of a significant number of bandits. However, unconfirmed reports claimed that the bandits managed to kidnap a senior military officer during the encounter.

The bravery of our troops and the CJTF members is commendable, as they were able to neutralise the threats and equally manage to push back the bandits,” stated a security source who wished to remain anonymous.

The source further confirmed that the military did suffer casualties during the fight.

Authorities are yet to comment on the reported kidnapping of a senior officer. Efforts to reach the Niger State government and military authorities for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
