Benue Police Recover Firearms Hidden in Vehicle, Arrest Police Officer

The Benue State Police Command has recovered two locally made pistols and live ammunition concealed in a vehicle, while a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to the sources, the incident was reported on 21 June 2026 by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mararaba “A”, New Karu, following information received on 20 June 2026.
A motor vehicle panel beater, Adam Yunusa, of Mararaba International Market, had earlier reported that on 17 June 2026, one Isaac (surname unknown) brought an unregistered Toyota Corolla to his workshop for repairs.
During the course of the work, the mechanic allegedly discovered a concealed polythene bag hidden inside the vehicle door panel containing two locally made English Beretta pistols without serial numbers and four rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The matter was immediately escalated, prompting an investigation. During the course of inquiry, one Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sanusi Ali, attached to Kakuri Area Command, Kaduna State, was arrested for questioning over alleged links to the vehicle.
The Command confirmed that the recovered firearms and ammunition are in police custody as exhibits.
The Police said investigation is ongoing and further developments will be communicated.
