Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have recovered a pistol and ammunition after suspected militia members abandoned their weapons and fled during a fighting patrol in Gbemacha Mbatiav District, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

Security sources said the troops, deployed at Wadata, were on a fighting patrol at about 2:30 p.m. on March 13 when they sighted the suspected militia.

The assailants reportedly fled immediately upon seeing the troops, leaving behind a pistol, one magazine, and a round of 9mm ammunition.

The recovered items have been secured in troops’ custody for further investigation, while OPWS personnel continue to maintain vigilant patrols across Gboko LGA to deter criminal activities.
