Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have arrested a high-profile suspected criminal following an intelligence-led operation in Agasha Village, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources said the operation, conducted on March 13, 2026, was launched after security agencies received credible information regarding an attack on a local resident, Mr Shaapera Seeta Michael. Acting promptly, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI, deployed under Operation WHIRL STROKE, mobilised to the area to track and apprehend the suspect.
Upon arrival, troops cordoned off the village to prevent the suspect from escaping and conducted a targeted search operation. The suspect, identified as Mr Suurnen David Akum, 27, of Agasha Village, was successfully apprehended. Security forces also recovered a locally fabricated rifle from the suspect.
The Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and tactical efficiency. He urged personnel to maintain operational momentum and remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom to operate within the area.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue before being handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
