The Chief of Defence Staff(CDS), Gen . Christopher Musa, on Saturday called for unity, patriotism and collective responsibility in securing and developing nigeria.
The CDS made the call in a message delivered by his representative, the chief of defence civil-military, Rear Admiral Bankole, during the Silent Heroes Awards ceremony in Abuja.
He said while Nigeria was battling insecurity, it was not engaged in a full-fledged war, noting that there were about 12,687 persons in internally displaced persons’ camps, including over 6,000 children due to the violence in Benue.
He said “We need to love ourselves, appreciate what we have, and celebrate our heroes. all of us are heroes in our respective spaces. let’s radiate whatever God has blessed us with. Nigeria is a blessed country, and we must collectively contribute to its progress,” he said.
The representative of the CDS stressed the importance of a whole-of-government approach, stating: “everything in Nigeria is about collective responsibility. in your home, you are in government; in your office, you are in government. whatever you do resonates with the citizenry. when we say the president is responsible for something, it’s not that he put something bad in your own home, we all have a role to play in making this country a better place.”
He commended the organizers of the awards noting that their efforts was a testament to their service to the country, and we appreciate their contributions to its peace and stability.”he said.
He also commended the Chief of Defence Staff for his continued leadership and for fostering unity within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
