The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families, describing quality healthcare as a critical component of troop morale, operational readiness and military effectiveness.
Shaibu stated this on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, during the unveiling of the newly constructed Headquarters, Nigerian Army Medical Corps, at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
The Army Chief charged the Medical Corps to strengthen healthcare delivery to officers, soldiers, their families and members of the barracks communities.
He emphasised that investment in healthcare services remained central to maintaining a healthy, motivated and combat-ready force.
According to him, access to responsive and quality medical services would not only enhance operational effectiveness but also reassure personnel that their welfare and that of their families remained a priority.
Shaibu commended the Nigerian Army Medical Corps for its sustained contributions to military operations, routine healthcare services and humanitarian interventions across the country.
He noted that the newly unveiled headquarters would enhance administrative coordination, improve medical service delivery and provide a conducive working environment for personnel of the Corps.
The COAS urged the Medical Corps to maximise the opportunities provided by the facility to promote innovation, professionalism and efficient healthcare services.
He said the initiative aligned with his Command Philosophy of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which places the welfare of personnel at the centre of military leadership.
Earlier, the Corps Commander Medical, Brig.-Gen. Innocent Ewunchola, expressed appreciation to the COAS for his leadership and sustained investment in medical infrastructure.
Ewunchola assured that the Corps would remain committed to providing efficient, accessible and quality healthcare to eligible beneficiaries.
He also pledged to ensure the proper maintenance and effective utilisation of the facility to achieve its intended objectives.
The unveiling of the headquarters represents another investment in the Nigerian Army's medical infrastructure and efforts to strengthen healthcare support for personnel and their families.
