The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of Operation FASA YEMMA to remain disciplined, motivated and professional as they confront evolving security threats across the North-West.
Shaibu gave the charge on Thursday during his maiden operational visit to the theatre, where he met frontline personnel, received operational briefings and interacted directly with soldiers on duty.
Reinforcing the centrality of discipline in military effectiveness, the Army Chief reminded the troops that their conduct and commitment remained vital to stabilising communities and improving national security outcomes.
“I implore you to do your job properly. I am leaving here charging you to remain a disciplined and more professional force, so that we can tackle the myriad of challenges we have in our country,” he told the troops.
He noted that personnel deployed across the country faced similar pressures and responsibilities, urging those in the FASAN YEMMA theatre to carry their share of the national task with pride and focus.
“There are officers and soldiers just like you in every other formation. Pull your own weight. Contribute your own quota,” he said.
Shaibu emphasised that sustained discipline and motivation were indispensable if the troops were to maintain operational superiority against the adversaries threatening communities in the region.
“You can only do that if you remain a disciplined and motivated force. Are you promising me that?” he asked, drawing a chorus of affirmation from the gathered soldiers.
The COAS’ visit is part of broader efforts by the Army leadership to strengthen morale, assess operational realities firsthand and ensure that troops in remote environments receive adequate support.
Shaibu had earlier assured the personnel that welfare, logistics and operational challenges raised during briefings and interactive sessions would be addressed promptly.
The Operation FASA YEMMA theatre spans parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and neighbouring states, and remains one of the most volatile security zones, with troops battling banditry, kidnapping syndicates and terror-linked groups operating across forested corridors.
