Security agencies in Maiduguri have debunked rumors circulating on social media about an alleged attack by ISWAP terrorists on the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Officials have confirmed that the campus remains completely safe and that students should go about their normal activities without fear.

According to security sources, the gunshots heard four days ago were not an attack on UNIMAID but rather an attempt by ISWAP fighters to infiltrate the outskirts of Ajilari, a community far from the university in Jere LGA.

The Troops swiftly responded to the threat, engaging the terrorists and inflicting severe losses on them and recovering two of their riffles. The situation was brought under total control, and normalcy was restored in the area.

Authorities have urged the public to disregard the fake reports spreading online, emphasizing that no attack occurred on the university.

“The entire area is safe, cool, and calm. Students and residents should remain assured that security forces are fully in control,” a military source stated.

Residents and students are advised to rely on verified sources for information and avoid spreading unverified claims that could cause unnecessary panic.
