Eight Arrested, Three Killed in Military Operations Across Niger, One Soldier Dead

Eight individuals were arrested and three others "neutralized" during military operations conducted between April 30 and May 1 in several regions of Niger, the army announced in its operations bulletin on Saturday, May 3. One soldier also lost his life during the operations.

In Dosso (southwest), five suspects were arrested and three others killed during a sweep operation carried out on May 1 along the Boumba – Zou Koira axis. Two motorcycles were seized and a canoe, reportedly used by terrorists, was destroyed.

In the Diffa region (southeast), two individuals accused of supplying terrorist armed groups were arrested on April 30 in Bosso. According to the army, they were transporting food and various supplies intended for those groups.

In Tillabéri (west), one individual "affiliated with a criminal network" was arrested in Tamou while attempting to blend into the crowd during Friday prayers. The arrest was made possible following an “anonymous tip-off,” the army stated.

In the north of the country, in Agadez, a suspected scout was apprehended on May 1 near the military reconnaissance post of Inabangharet. The man was reportedly caught “on a reconnaissance mission” near the military setup.

During these operations, one soldier was also killed on May 1 in the Niaktiré area of the Tillabéri region when an improvised explosive device targeted a patrol, the army reported.

Niger continues to face recurrent attacks from armed groups operating in its border regions with Mali, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria.
