Farmer Injured in Clash With Herder Over Grazing in Plateau, 33 Cattle Seized

A 34-year-old farmer, Mr. Sylvester Ezekiel, has sustained head injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by a herder during a dispute over grazing on farmland in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of Sector 5 under Operation Enduring Peace responded to a distress call at about 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 5 following reports of an attack at Juwang Village in Tangur District.
The sources said the altercation occurred after the farmer reportedly confronted the herder and refused to allow cattle to graze on his farmland.
On arrival at the scene, troops found the victim with injuries to his head, while the suspected Fulani herder had abandoned his livestock and fled on sighting the security personnel.
The troops confiscated 33 cattle left behind by the fleeing suspect and moved them to a secure location pending further action.
The injured farmer was evacuated to a clinic in Bokkos town for medical treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing herder and continue investigations into the incident.
