FCT police rearrest inmate coordinating armed robbery, apprehend accomplices

Operatives of the Scorpion Squad in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have rearrested a notorious armed robbery suspect, Yewa Yakubu Ibrahim, 35, an inmate of Kuje Correctional Facility, who was discovered to be orchestrating armed robbery and drug trafficking operations from within the prison.

 

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that Yewa was linked to a syndicate involved in the snatching and sale of Hilux and SUV vehicles, as well as distribution of hard drugs across Lagos, Abuja, and Bauchi states. 

 

The sources said that his  accomplices, Stephen Musa, Godiya Bitrus, and Armiya Emmanuel were also apprehended in connection with the criminal network.

 

Stephen Musa was arrested while attempting to disable a tracking device on a Toyota Corolla, registration number KUJ 208 DA, which was stolen at gunpoint on April 8, 2025, in Shetuko Village, Kuje. 

 

He admitted purchasing the stolen vehicle from Yewa for ₦1.8 million.

 

During interrogation, Yewa confessed to using petroleum tankers to traffic drugs and claimed to have international contacts in the Niger Republic. 

 

He also disclosed that he accidentally shot himself in the foot in 2018 while handling a pistol during an operation at Mabushi.

 

The sources added that Police recovered the sum of ₦1 million from Armiya Emmanuel in Bauchi, believed to be part of the proceeds from the vehicle sales.

 

According to the source, In line with directives from the Commissioner of Police, FCT, the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
