Fire Destroys 60 Shelters in Monguno IDP Camp, No Casualties Reported

A fire outbreak at the Government Senior Science Secondary School (GSSSS) Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno has destroyed about 60 makeshift shelters, leaving many residents without shelter and belongings.

 

The Camp Chairman, Bulama Bukar Kutami, reported stated that the fire started around 1:30 p.m. on Friday. 

 

The inferno consumed food supplies, household items, and other valuables, although the exact cause of the fire and the estimated value of losses remain unknown.

 

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded. A patrol team from the Monguno Division was deployed for crowd control and to prevent looting, while firefighters, security personnel, and camp residents worked together to contain the blaze.
