Gun men  kill community leader in Benue

A community leader, Zaki Stephen Kegher, aged 62, has been killed by gun men in the Mbayongo clan of the state.

 

Zagazola Makama was informed  that the  incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when unknown gunmen reportedly stormed the victim’s residence in Odbaniange and shot him dead.

 

Kegher was the kindred head of the Odbaniange community in Mbayongo, and was allegedly targeted directly by the attackers. Preliminary intelligence suggests the attackers may be loyalists of a known bandit leader identified as Konyo.

 

Upon receiving the distress report, security forces were swiftly deployed to the area. However, the assailants had fled into the nearby forest before the arrival of security personnel.

 

According to police sources, combined security teams are currently combing the surrounding bushes in an effort to track, engage, and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
