Gunmen kill four illegal miners in Barkin Ladi

Four suspected illegal miners have been killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle conveying them from a mining site at Ganna Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 0338 hours on Sept. 20, 2026, when troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of shooting involving an Opel vehicle conveying four suspected illegal miners at Ganna Ropp village.
The troops, upon arrival at the scene, confirmed that all four occupants of the vehicle had been shot dead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were returning from a mining site in the Ganna Ropp area when the vehicle came under attack by the unidentified gunmen.
The victims were identified as the driver, Mallam Sadam, and Mr Umar, while the identities of the remaining two victims are yet to be established.
The corpses were subsequently evacuated by personnel of the Keystone Outpost, Ganna Ropp, for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, troops are currently dominating the general area with offensive operations and a manhunt for the attackers, as efforts continue to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
