Troops repel armed herders, recover livestock after sporadic firing in Mangu

Troops of Sector 8 of the Nigerian Army have responded to reports of sporadic firing between Kikyau and Alohom communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, forcing suspected armed herders to withdraw from the area.
The incident occurred at about 1645 hours on Sept. 19, 2026, when troops of Sub-Sector 81, Gyambwas, responded to reports of sporadic shooting allegedly involving armed herders in the area.
On arrival at the location, the troops reportedly sighted armed Fulani herders with their cattle attempting to cross a river line. The troops moved in pursuit, established contact and engaged the armed group, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
While exploiting the withdrawal routes, the troops observed what appeared to be deliberate destruction of farmland around the general area of Alohom.
The troops subsequently intercepted eight sheep, two lambs and one calf that had reportedly been abandoned by the fleeing herders, who escaped with other cattle after sighting the security forces.
The recovered livestock were moved to a safe location for necessary action.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) within adjoining communities have been summoned by the security authorities as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the alleged shooting and destruction of farmlands.
