Gunmen kill one, abduct woman in Katsina-Ala Benue market attack

Armed men on Friday attacked Solozo Market in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one trader, abducting a woman, and injuring another.

 

Zagazola learnt that the  gunmen, numbering about six and riding on three Bajaj motorcycles, stormed the market around 2:20 p.m., reportedly targeting traders who had arrived to buy pepper.

 

The attackers shot and killed a 29-year-old trader, Imoter Denen, from Harga Village, on the spot. A woman identified as Nguveren Iorwuese from Solozo Town was abducted by the assailants and taken to an unknown destination.

 

Another trader, Saater Akwaza, was hit by a stray bullet and sustained injuries. The gunmen also snatched two motorcycles before fleeing the scene.

 

Security teams responded swiftly to the distress call and launched a search operation in the surrounding area, but the attackers had already escaped. The injured victim was taken to the General Hospital in Katsina-Ala for treatment.

 

The body of the deceased was released to his family for burial in accordance with their request.
