Hoodlums in Ipetumodu, Osun State, ambushed a team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), leaving several officers and a vigilante injured.

Sources said the incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday when SCID operatives, led by DPO Johnson Olajonrin, moved to arrest two principal murder suspects whose case had been taken over by the SCID on July 21, 2015.

The attackers opened fire, injuring members of the team and a vigilante operative. Reinforcement was immediately deployed, forcing the hoodlums to flee.

A Toyota Camry with registration number KWL 906 Abuja was recovered from the scene. The wounded officers were treated and discharged from Amazing Grace Clinic, while the vigilante, identified as Odewale Adepoju, is still receiving treatment.

Police say investigation into the attack is ongoing.
