On July 4, 2024, at 9 AM, six terrorists from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) attacked a vehicle and its occupants near NGoubra.
The attack resulted in two injuries, with the victims evacuated to Abala district hospital for treatment. This incident highlights the escalating security threats in the region, specifically around Tounloun Damissa (Toulou Ndamésa) and Filingué in Tillabéri.
The Two individuals that were injured in the attack have been evacuated to Abala district hospital for medical attention.
It was gathered that the EIGS terrorists issued an ultimatum to the residents of Tounloun Damissa, west of Filingué, ordering them to flee the area. In response, locals have been evacuating to Filingué, increasing the humanitarian burden on the town.
The Filingué-Abala axis has become a hotspot for terrorist activity. EIGS terrorists are regularly patrolling this route, attacking and robbing travelers heading to the Abala market. This has led to increased insecurity and disruption of local commerce and daily life.
The EIGS has made clear its intention to expand its influence further south and west of Niamey, areas that had previously been relatively spared from such violence. This expansion poses a significant threat to the stability and security of the region, potentially leading to further displacement and disruption.
