By: Zagazola Makama
The deadly clashes between Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist groups are not abating any time soon as both sides are devising means of undoing each other.
The latest clash which claimed the lives of several fighters from either side happened in Tumbun Rago island of Lake Chad.
In the wee hours of 22 January 2024, ISWAP elements went to where Boko Haram fighters were camping in Tumbun Rago to attack them in response to the January 21, attack launched by the Boko Haram faction in the ISWAP camp in Tumbun Jaki.
Zagazola Makama, counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, was told by reliable sources that the fight at Tumbun Rago was bloody as Boko Haram group suffered numerous casualties.
It is predicted that the deadly rivalry between the two erstwhile allies will continue unabated. Boko Haram on their own part, are not prepared to surrender their supremacy or be displaced by the 'usurpers'.
