The Kano State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects, including a man identified as Hon. Muhammad Dahiru, described in a police report as the ALGON Chairman in Kebbi State, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged gun-running and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the latest arrests followed an investigation into a case initially reported at Dorayi Babba Division on Aug. 13, 2026, involving alleged criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and referred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
Sources said operatives of the squad intensified investigations, leading to the arrest of Dahiru, who was allegedly found in possession of a silver-coloured pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition.
Another suspect, identified as Rabi’u Ahmed Kanti, 66, from Bichi Local Government Area, was also arrested in possession of a pistol allegedly loaded with 12 rounds of live ammunition.
Police sources said further investigation into the case led to the arrest of two suspected gun-runners identified as Abdulmalik, 55, of Bechi village in Ungogo LGA, and Armaya’u Lawal, alias “Agwada,” 37, of Ring Road, Gwale LGA.
The arrests form part of an expanding investigation aimed at uncovering the source, movement and intended recipients of the firearms and ammunition.
“The investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to identify, trace and apprehend other suspects connected with the case,” a police source said.
The police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the recovered weapons and ammunition as detectives work to establish the extent of the suspected gun-running network.
Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
