MACBAN condemns killing of three herders by Berom Militia in Plateau, demands impartial probe

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State Chapter, Alh. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, has condemned the killing of three young herders and the injury of two others during an attack around Tanjol village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, The Chairman of MACBAN Babayo said the victims were grazing their cattle when they came under attack between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on July 19.
The deceased were identified as Abdurrazak Abdullahi (22), Husaini Idris (23), and Yusuf Tukur (19), while Ayuba Adam and Sadi Adamu sustained injuries. He also said one cow was killed and another suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.
The MACBAN chairman extended condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Babayo expressed concern over what he described as conflicting accounts of the incident, urging the public to refrain from drawing conclusions before the completion of official investigations.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), Operation Enduring Peace and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and independent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the attack and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The MACBAN chairman also cautioned against public statements that appear to assign blame before investigations are concluded, warning that such narratives could heighten tensions, inflame emotions and undermine ongoing peace and security efforts in Plateau State.
He stressed that the recurring cycle of violence in the state requires justice, dialogue and accountability from all parties, adding that lasting peace can only be achieved through respect for the rule of law and equal protection for all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious background.
Babayo urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and refrain from reprisals while investigations into the incident continue.
