Two civilians missing, three injured as troops engage terrorists in Sokoto

Two civilians have been declared missing while three others sustained gunshot injuries following a terrorist attack in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on April 15, 2026, when an unconfirmed number of armed attackers stormed Takatsaba village and opened fire, forcing residents to flee.
According to the sources, troops responding to distress information arrived at the scene and found that the attackers had already withdrawn from the village.
The sources added that troops pursued the fleeing assailants along their withdrawal route, made contact, and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to retreat further.
During the attack, three civilians sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated for medical treatment, while two others were reported missing after the incident.
Security sources said troops have intensified patrols and search operations in the area to locate the missing persons and prevent further attacks on surrounding communities.
