Mob kills suspected thief in Bauchi over sheep theft

A mob has lynched a 25-year-old man, Hussaini Adamu, in Gadau, Bauchi State, for allegedly attempting to steal a sheep.

It was gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Waila village, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area.

According to sources, Hussaini Adamu of Gadau Lamba village and his alleged accomplice, Sani Jumba of Kuka Zaure village, broke into the residence of one Ziladani Yahaya, 50, and attempted to steal his sheep.

Yahaya raised the alarm and tried to block the fleeing suspects. In the process, the suspects allegedly stabbed him and his wife, Zakiya Ziladani, 30, with a knife.

A crowd quickly gathered and apprehended Hussaini Adamu, who was beaten to death at the scene, while Sani Jumba escaped.

Police operatives from the Itas/Gadau Division later visited the scene, evacuated the injured victims to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Azare, for medical attention, and deposited the suspect’s remains at the General Hospital, Itas/Gadau.

Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, while investigations continue.
