Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has appointed retired Maj.-Gen. Bala A. Isandu as Special Adviser on Security as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the Plateau State Government on Wednesday.

Before his appointment, Isandu served as Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence and also held the position of Director at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

During his distinguished military career spanning more than three decades, the retired general participated in several local and international security operations, earning recognition for his extensive experience in intelligence, strategic security management and national defence.

The state government said the appointment formed part of a broader restructuring aimed at reinforcing Plateau’s security framework, enhancing the protection of lives and property, and ensuring the safety of educational institutions across the state.

Mutfwang congratulated Isandu and other newly appointed officials, expressing confidence in their professionalism, dedication and wealth of experience.

He urged the new Special Adviser on Security to deploy his expertise in advancing the administration’s vision of a peaceful, secure and prosperous Plateau.

Meanwhile, security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has welcomed the appointment, describing Isandu as a seasoned intelligence officer with deep operational experience.

Makama said the retired major-general had spent more than three decades in the security sector, serving in key intelligence and strategic appointments both within and outside Nigeria.

According to him, Isandu’s vast knowledge of intelligence gathering, security coordination and counter-insurgency operations would be invaluable in supporting the Plateau Government’s efforts to address the state’s security challenges.
