Top Nigerian policymakers, security experts and international partners are set to converge at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Abuja, tomorrow, Wednesday, September 3, for a two-day Regional Conference on Combating Emerging Terrorist Groups and Strengthening Sustainable Security in the ECOWAS Region and the Sahel.
The conference will run through Thursday, September 4, 2025, as part of activities culminating ECOWAS @50.
The program, designed to foster collaboration and share best practices, brings together key stakeholders including the ECOWAS Commission, African Union, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Heads of security and Intelligence agencies from the ECOWAS region and the Sahel.
The conference seeks to address emerging threats posed by terrorist and violent extremist groups across West Africa and the Sahel, as well as promote sustainable security frameworks for the region.
Organizers expect the conference to culminate in actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening regional security architecture, enhancing intelligence sharing, and fostering collaboration among national, regional, and international partners.
The event illustrates Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to curbing terrorism and violent extremism, promoting regional stability, and supporting coordinated security initiatives across the ECOWAS and Sahel regions.
