Nigerian Customs Arrest Nigerien Policeman with Pistol at Katsina Border

Personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have apprehended a Nigerien policeman at the Jibia–Magama border crossing in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the suspect was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the border’s main gate during a routine security check.
According to the sources, customs operatives approached the individual to ascertain his mission and purpose for being at the border post. However, the suspect allegedly became unruly, prompting security personnel to detain him.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a pistol and five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The sources disclosed that the suspect, identified as a member of the Nigerien police force, was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police headquarters in Jibia along with the recovered firearm and ammunition for further investigation and necessary action.
Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s presence at the border or whether he had authorization to carry the weapon into Nigerian territory.
Investigations are ongoing.
