One dead, others injured in fatal crash on Gusau–Sokoto highway

A fatal motor accident occurred on Jan. 29 along the Gusau–Sokoto highway in Bungudu area, leaving one dead and two others injured, the Zamfara State Police Command reported.

Sources said that the crash involved a trailer Daf, registration LSD 699 X, loaded with stones and driven by Amadu Muhammad, 45, of Potiskum LGA, Yobe State, and a Peugeot 406 saloon car, registration DKA 746 FT, driven by Kabiru Sha’aya, 22, conveying Abdulhakim Bello, 22, both of Talata Mafara LGA.

“The accident occurred when the trailer, driving against the one-way traffic, collided with the Peugeot 406, causing serious injuries to the occupants,” the source said.

The State Motor Traffic Division personnel mobilized to the scene and evacuated the injured to Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, where the Peugeot driver, Kabiru Sha’aya, later died on admission. The corpse was photographed and released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

The sources said investigations into the incident had commenced and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents.
