Plateau killings: IGP Disu visits state, vows to hunt down attackers

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has visited Plateau State following a wave of deadly attacks in parts of the state, assuring residents that the Nigeria Police Force would intensify operations to apprehend those responsible.
Disu, who arrived in the state on Wednesday, paid a condolence visit to the Plateau State Government over the recent killings and expressed the Police Force’s commitment to strengthening security operations across affected communities.
The visit followed the killing of nine passengers travelling in a commercial bus at Dungus Junction, Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area, as well as separate attacks in Vodni community in Pushit District of Mangu LGA and Tahoos community in Riyom LGA.
Speaking during the visit, Disu said he was in the state to engage with stakeholders and address the security challenges arising from the recent attacks.
“I am on the Plateau to discuss issues bothering on the killings in Mangu and other parts of the state,” the IGP said.
He said the Police were concerned about the deteriorating security situation and had already made some arrests in connection with the incidents.
“We are not happy with the situation and I can assure you we have made some arrests,” Disu said.
The IGP further said he had engaged relevant stakeholders as part of efforts to develop lasting solutions to the recurring violence.
According to him, the Police would continue to work with the state government, other security agencies and local communities to improve security and restore confidence among residents.
“Having gone round and engaged with stakeholders to have lasting solutions to the problem, I can assure you people have hope and confidence in the police and we will continue working together in synergy and collaboration for a secure environment,” he said.
Disu assured the Plateau State Government that the Police would strengthen collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to address the security challenges confronting the state.
He also pledged that security agencies would continue efforts to identify, arrest and bring those responsible for the recent attacks to justice.
The IGP’s visit comes amid heightened security operations across parts of Plateau State following a series of attacks and reprisal incidents that have claimed civilian lives and heightened tensions among communities.
