Police Arrest Suspect Over Killing of Herder  in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a herder following a violent altercation in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

 

Police sources said the incident was reported at about 2030 hours on June 21 at the Mokwa Division by Alhaji Halulu of Kpautagi Fulani Camp via Takuma.

 

According to the report, the victim, identified as Tukur Halulu, had taken his cattle out for grazing within the vicinity of their settlement when he was allegedly attacked and beaten into a coma by one Mohammed Jibrin, 25, of the same area.

 

The suspect was said to have accused the victim of allowing his cattle to encroach on his farmland, leading to a confrontation.

 

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a team of operatives to the scene and ensured the victim was rushed to General Hospital, Mokwa, for medical attention.

 

Police authorities said the victim later died at about 0600 hours on June 22 while receiving treatment.

 

His remains were deposited at the same hospital for autopsy.

 

The suspect has since been arrested, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

 

The command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice and preventing further escalation of tensions in the area.
