Three feared dead in Nassarawa highway bus fire

Three persons are feared dead in a fatal motor accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday along the Akwanga Highway in Nasarawa State.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. near Gidan Waya Village when a Hummer bus conveying passengers from Enugu to Bauchi veered off the road and crashed into a large stone.
Sources said the impact damaged the vehicle’s fuel tank and one of its tyres, causing the bus to burst into flames shortly after the collision.
Three passengers were believed to have been trapped inside the vehicle and burnt to death, while several others were rescued from the scene and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Security operatives and good Samaritans were said to have mobilised quickly to extinguish the fire and assist the injured.
Police say Investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, while authorities have cautioned drivers to exercise extra care, especially on long-distance night journeys.
