The Police Command in Jigawa State has foiled an attempted attack by suspected hoodlums and recovered a locally fabricated firearm in Miga Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the incident occurred in the early hours of April 3, following a distress call received from the Village Head of Yan Duna.

According to police sources, a group of unidentified hoodlums had earlier stormed Yan Duna village at about 2:00 a.m. but were repelled by members of the local security watch.

The sources disclosed that while pursuing the fleeing suspects, the vigilantes were ambushed by the hoodlums at Unguwar Kankiyamma near Jahun, where the attackers reportedly shot arrows at them.

Policemen from the Jahun Division were immediately mobilised to the scene, forcing the assailants to flee upon sighting the security operatives.

Six vigilantes sustained injuries from the arrow attack and were taken to a medical facility, where they were treated and later discharged.

A joint team of police officers and vigilantes subsequently trailed the suspects’ footprints and recovered a locally fabricated gun believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing hoodlums.

The police said efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the suspects, while security patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks.
