The Katsina State Police Command says it has foiled a banditry attack in Mazare Village, Sabuwa Local Government Area, following a swift response by its operatives.
According to sources, the incident occurred on June 6 at about 10:07 p.m. when a distress call indicated that a large number of armed bandits had invaded the community.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sabuwa, immediately mobilised an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team to the scene, where the operatives engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
The police sources said the sustained pressure forced the suspected bandits to flee into surrounding bushes, while the area was subsequently cordoned off by security operatives to prevent further attacks and track escape routes.
However, during a sweep of the area, officers discovered that the attackers had shot and injured a 13-year-old boy, identified as Musa Yahaya, of the same community.
The victim was quickly evacuated to a nearby medical facility where he is reported to be in stable condition.
The command further disclosed that patrol teams have blocked possible exit routes used by the attackers, while coordinated search operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
It assured residents of continued efforts to restore peace and security in the area, urging the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.
