Police Rescue Kidnapped Victim, Arrest Suspects in Kano
Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped victim, arrested two suspects, and recovered firearms and suspected rustled livestock during an operation in Munture Forest, Rano Local Government Area (LGA).
The command’s Public Relations Officer confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad following a report from one Tela Alhaji Hudu of Rantan, Bebeji LGA.
According to the report, the victim, Sani Wargi, was kidnapped on Feb. 12 after being robbed of one million naira (₦1,000,000), with his abductors later demanding a ransom of seven million naira (₦7,000,000) for his release.
The suspects, identified as Sale Alhaji Iliya (27) and Shehu Garba (45), both of Gomo Village, Toro LGA, Bauchi State, were apprehended at Munture Forest. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the crime and named their accomplices as Ibrahim Snu of Jos, Plateau State, Yahaya Dangi of Rantan, Bebeji LGA, and Bala Snu.
Items recovered from the suspects included a Beretta pistol with breach number 0044873 loaded with one live round, two 7.62mm live ammunition, four mobile phones, 36 suspected rustled cows, four sheep, and a sword.
The police stated that an investigation was ongoing, and efforts were being intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, gunmen abducted a 22-year-old woman, Fatima Bello, and her three-year-old daughter, Nana Unaisa, in Malikawa Sarari, Bichi LGA.
A report from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bichi revealed that the assailants, numbering about six, stormed the residence of Bello Murtala at around 9:00 p.m. on Feb. 19, shooting sporadically before whisking away his wife and child on their motorcycles.
A police patrol team led by the DPO responded to the distress call, but the suspects had already escaped before their arrival.
The police assured that efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
