The Nigerian Armed Forces have repelled coordinated attacks by armed bandits on military forward operating bases in Niger and Kaduna States, resulting in the deaths of several soldiers, while scores of the attackers were neutralised during intense gun battles, military authorities have confirmed.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday, June 24, targeted military locations in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas of Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Zagazola gathered that the assailants launched a three-pronged assault on the bases in a coordinated manner, prompting immediate counter-attacks by land and air component forces deployed in the affected areas.
In a statement made available by the army on its official X handle, it said that the troops responded with superior firepower, killing a large number of the bandits during the engagements.
“Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces, supported by air assets, repelled the attacks successfully, neutralising scores of the bandits. Unfortunately, some of our gallant personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” the statement read in part.
Four soldiers who sustained gunshot injuries are currently receiving medical treatment at a military facility.
The military assured that reinforcements have been deployed to consolidate the gains and prevent further incursions in the affected areas.
Operations are said to be ongoing in the axis to pursue fleeing elements and restore full stability.
Further details are expected as investigations and mop-up operations continue.
