Suspected motorcycle thief killed in Yobe

A suspected motorcycle thief has been killed in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe state.

Sources told Zagazola on Friday that the incident occurred on Sept. 23 at about 10:40 p.m.

The sources said that two unidentified men, suspected to be of Fulani origin, hired a commercial motorcyclist, one Mohammed Alhaji Maji, also known as Tela, of Kafetuwa village, to convey them to Gadole Fulani settlement in Karasuwa.

“On the way, one of the passengers asked the rider to stop, claiming that his stick had fallen. When the rider stopped to allow him to pick it up, he suddenly struck him on the head with the stick.

“The suspects attempted to strangle the victim and dispossess him of his motorcycle, but he managed to stab one of them with a knife in self-defence,” the sources said.

He added that on Sept. 24 at about 1:00 p.m., while tracing the suspects’ footprints, the police discovered the body of one of them in the bush, while the other escaped.

According to the sources, the victim and the corpse were taken to General Hospital, Jajimaji, where a medical doctor confirmed the suspect dead, while the motorcyclist was treated and admitted.
