The Mixed Multinational Force Transfers 46 former Boko Haram members to the Chadian authoritiesBagasola, Chad - August 27, 2023: The Mixed Multinational Force (MFF) has taken a significant step towards long-term peace in the region, with the supervision of the handover of 46 repentant former members of Boko Haram to the Chadian authorities by the commander of Sector 2 of the FMM, Major General Djouma Youssouf Mahamat Itno, on August 26, 2023.The presentation took place in Bagasola, in the presence of the Minister of Public Service and Social Dialogue, the Honourable Abdoulaye Mbodou Mbami, who accepted the Reformed insurgents on behalf of the Chadian government. This is part of a larger effort, led by the FMM and regional authorities, to encourage all insurgents to lay down their arms, repent and contribute positively to the growth of society.In his remarks, Major General Itno strongly urged the remaining factions of Boko Haram to follow the example of their 46 compatriots and accept a lasting peace. He also highlighted the crucial role of community leaders in raising awareness to counter and mitigate the violent extremism that fuels the ideology of insurgents."The time has come for peace," said Major General Itno, "and it begins by recognising that we are stronger together. We implore community leaders to play their role in raising awareness. Together, we can eradicate extremist ideologies and work for lasting peace and stability."This important event took place in the presence of several eminent dignitaries, including the governor of the province of Lac, General Djibrine Ratou, the prefect of the department of Kaya, Hassane Abderamane, and the traditional chiefs.This iconic discount marks a potential turning point in ongoing efforts to eradicate violent extremism in the region and highlights the FMM's unwavering determination to ensure lasting tranquillity.
