Two vigilante leaders arrested over Ibeto Killing in Niger

Two vigilante leaders have been arrested by the Police in connection with a culpable homicide case earlier reported in Ibeto, Niger State.

 

The suspects, identified as Hambali Yahaya, head of a local vigilante group, and Yusuf Madawaki, both from Ibeto, were taken into custody following investigations into the killing reported on Jan. 16, 2026.

 

Sources said the arrests were made by operatives attached to the Nasko Division under the Kontagora Area Command, and the suspects are currently being held while investigations continue.

 

The homicide case had generated tension in the area, with residents calling for a thorough and transparent probe.

 

Investigators say further details will be made public as the case progresses, while efforts are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
