Three killed, dozens injured in Yobe road crash

Three persons were killed and 37 others injured on Tuesday in a road accident along the Lamba–Potiskum route in Yobe State, the police have said.
Sources said that the accident occurred at about 5 p.m. in the Badejo area when Mitsubishi Canter truck conveying cattle and passengers from Lamba to Potiskum veered off the road after hitting two pedestrians.
The source said the truck, with registration number GML 538 XA and driven by Saidu Baba of Lamba Sule area of Fika, struck two women who were crossing the road before plunging into a nearby bush.
“As a result, the two women and one passenger in the vehicle died on the spot, while the driver and 37 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the source said.
He added that police operatives promptly visited the scene and evacuated the victims to Potiskum for medical attention.
“Four of the injured were admitted for treatment, while the driver and 33 others were treated and discharged,” the source said.
The deceased were identified as Sani Mallam Habu, 50; Khadija Mohamed, 40; and Aisha Gambo, 45.
