Tit for tat: Suspected Mwaghavul militia attack herders in Mangu, kill livestock

Suspected Mwaghavul militia reportedly attacked herders at Maitumbi village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Sunday, killing several livestock and injuring others as tit for tat attacks continue.
According to local sources, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2026, when the attackers allegedly stormed the settlement and targeted the herders and their animals.
The sources said several livestock were killed during the attack, while some others were injured. The circumstances surrounding the attack and the exact number of animals killed or injured were still being verified as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has heightened concerns among residents and herders in the area, amid recurring attacks and reprisals involving farming and herding communities in parts of Mangu.
Security personnel are expected to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible, while efforts are ongoing to obtain further details from residents and relevant security authorities.
