Troops ambush terrorists in Niger, recover six motorcycles; one soldier killed

Troops of the Nigerian Army have ambushed suspected terrorists in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, killing an unspecified number of the assailants and recovering six motorcycles after a follow-up exploitation operation.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the ambush was carried out at about 5:30 p.m. on July 25 by troops of the 45 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Beri, in conjunction with the 18 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and troops of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) Administrative Battalion.
The sources said the troops laid an ambush at a known terrorist crossing point in Tudun Magaji Village, where they made contact with the armed terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
During the operation, one soldier was killed in action, while another sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
The sources added that troops returned to the area at about 6:00 a.m. on July 26 to exploit the scene, leading to the recovery of six motorcycles believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Military sources said follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing terrorists and consolidate security gains in the area.
