Troops of the 176 Guards Battalion deployed at the Dantata Checkpoint in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested a suspected impostor who allegedly posed as a Nigerian Army soldier.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 2:30 p.m. on July 26 after driving to the military checkpoint and requesting the intervention of troops following an argument with one of his passengers.
The sources said the unusual request prompted the troops to question the suspect, during which preliminary interrogation revealed that he was an Uber driver falsely claiming to be a serving soldier.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a fake Nigerian Army identity card allegedly used to support his false claim.
The suspect has been taken into custody for further investigation, while security authorities are working to determine the extent of his activities and whether he is linked to any wider impersonation or fraud network.
