Troops of 144 Battalion (Motorised) have ambushed suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Borno State, neutralising one insurgent and recovering arms, ammunition and logistics supplies.
Security sources told Zagazola that the operation took place at about 0415 hours on May 10, 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of logistics items meant for terrorists at Hyambula general area.
The sources said troops laid an ambush for the terrorists while they were attempting to convey the supplies, resulting in a brief but decisive engagement.
One terrorist was reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others fled the scene.
Following the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, two extra magazines, and 35 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition.
Other items recovered included a mobile phone, 38 packs of spaghetti, 10 litres of petrol (PMS), two cartons of Gramazole, one carton of Peak Milk, as well as other assorted food and logistics supplies.
Military authorities said troops have continued exploitation of the general area to prevent regrouping of fleeing elements and to disrupt further logistical support to terrorist networks.
They added that operations remain ongoing within the sector as part of sustained efforts to strangulate terrorist supply chains and deny them freedom of action.
