Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have arrested a suspected bandit during a snap checkpoint operation in Birnin Gwari and recovered an AK-47 magazine, mobile phones and other items from the suspect.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 6:04 p.m. on May 8 by troops of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dogon Dawa.
According to the sources, the troops mounted a snap roadblock at Damari area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area when they intercepted the suspect riding a motorcycle.
The suspect was identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 32 years old.
“During the search, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other personal belongings from the suspect,” the source said.
The sources further disclosed that preliminary investigation conducted on the suspect’s mobile phones revealed several incriminating photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military-style uniform and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
Security officials said the suspect and the recovered items were immediately moved to the battalion headquarters for further investigation and necessary action.
Military authorities noted that the general security situation within the area remained calm but highly unpredictable, adding that troops had intensified surveillance and monitoring operations across the axis.
Operation Fansan Yamma troops have continued offensive and intelligence-driven operations across parts of the North-West to curb banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.
