Troops Arrest Suspect, Recover Pistol in Abia Raid Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have arrested a suspect over alleged illegal possession of firearm in Umuahia North and recovered a foreign-made pistol during a raid operation.

 

Security sources told Zagazola Makama  that the operation was carried out at about 10:00 a.m. on May 9 by troops of 14 Brigade following a distress call from residents of Umuoriehe community in Umuahia North Local Government Area.

 

According to the sources, troops swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving reports about suspected illegal possession of a firearm within the community.

 

The suspect, identified as Ifeanyi Ezebuiro, 22, was apprehended during the operation.

 

“During the raid, troops recovered one foreign-made Ruger pistol with breech number 316-89542 from the suspect,” the source said.

 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly claimed the firearm belonged to his late father.

 

Military sources disclosed that the suspect and the recovered weapon were currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary action.

 

Operation UDO KA troops have continued intelligence-driven operations and raids across the South-East aimed at curbing criminal activities and illegal possession of arms in the region.
