Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected armed robber following an encounter with a group of criminals along the Ogbe-Udu axis of Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on June 7 while troops of 3 Battalion were conducting a routine pipeline patrol in the area.
According to the sources, the troops encountered suspected armed robbers who had mounted a roadblock and allegedly attempted to attack the patrol team.
The troops reportedly engaged the suspects in a gun duel, during which one of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds, while others fled into nearby areas.
Following the encounter, the troops carried out a search of the general area and successfully apprehended another suspected member of the gang.
The injured suspect and the arrested accomplice were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
Security officials said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network operating within the area.
The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, and combating criminal activities across Delta State.
Authorities have urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against criminal elements.
