Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have defied terrorist threats and celebrated Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Ngoshe and Gwoza areas of Borno State, in a show of dominance and restoration of normalcy.

Security sources said insurgents linked to Boko Haram had earlier circulated propaganda threatening to seize Ngoshe town and mark the Sallah celebration at the central mosque, a move aimed at instilling fear among residents and projecting territorial control.

However, troops of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Hadin Kai, moved swiftly to reinforce the area following an earlier attack on March 4.

The military response, supported by aerial surveillance and local intelligence, disrupted insurgent movements and led to the neutralisation of several fighters, effectively blunting the threat.  On the day of Sallah, Ngoshe and nearby Gwoza remained calm, with residents freely observing prayers and engaging in celebrations without incident.

In a symbolic reversal of insurgent intent, troops were seen celebrating Eid prayers at the Ngoshe central mosque, an act that reinforced state authority and countered the narrative pushed by the terrorists.

“They boast that they will celebrate Sallah in Ngoshe. But here we are exposing their lies. No single Boko Haram is in Ngoshe,”he said.

The military commended members of the community for their cooperation and vigilance, noting that their support contributed to the success of the operation.

It urged the public to avoid spreading terrorist propaganda, stressing that such narratives could undermine national security efforts.

The sources added that troops would sustain operations in the area to consolidate gains and ensure lasting peace.
