Troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed several terrorists’ camps and recovered logistics items during a coordinated offensive operation in Zamfara State.
Security sources told Zagazola that the operation was conducted at about 8:00 a.m. on April 20 by troops of 1 Brigade in conjunction with elements of the Headquarters, Theatre Command, Mobile Strike Team (MST).
The offensive targeted a known terrorist enclave located within Munhaye Forest in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to the sources, artillery elements provided fire support during the operation, enabling ground troops to advance and engage the terrorists in a firefight.
“The troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them effectively, forcing the insurgents to withdraw from their positions,” the source said.
Following the engagement, troops conducted a thorough clearance of the area, destroying all identified terrorist camps along the axis.
Items recovered during the operation included five jerrycans containing 25 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), five additional containers filled with four litres of PMS each, two 75A batteries, and one bandolier jacket.
Other items described as sundry materials used for terrorist logistics and operations were also recovered.
Military authorities said the operation has significantly disrupted the logistical base of the террорист elements operating within the forest corridor.
They added that troops have continued to dominate the area with aggressive patrols to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
