Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kyangakwai, have engaged suspected Lakurawa terrorist elements during a fighting patrol in Kebbi State.

A military source said the encounter occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on June 14 when the troops conducted a patrol towards Dogon Daji in Dandi Local Government Area.

The source added that the troops made contact with the suspected Lakurawa terrorist group during the operation and engaged them in a brief firefight.

Following the engagement, the troops recovered one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tube, three explosive devices, two motorcycles, and other sundry items.

The troops subsequently dominated the area with aggressive patrols to prevent regrouping and ensure continued control of the general area.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities and enhance security along border communities in Kebbi State and adjoining regions.
