Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recovered a locally fabricated firearm, ammunition, and suspected illicit substances during a response to a distress call in Benue State.
A military source said the troops, deployed at Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area, responded to reports of suspicious activities at about 8:00 a.m. on June 13.
On arrival at the scene, the suspect reportedly fled on sighting the troops.
The source added that the troops recovered one locally fabricated pistol, two cartridges, and packs of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, among other sundry items.
The recovered items are currently in the custody of the troops for further action.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts under Operation Whirl Stroke to curb criminal activities and enhance security in affected communities across the region.
