Troops foil cattle rustling attempt by Berom Militia in Plateau, launch manhunt for suspects

Troops of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have foiled an attempt by suspected Berom Militia to steal five cattle along the Jong-Nyerwei road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 3:23 p.m. on Sept. 1, when troops of Sector 4, OPEP, responded to reports of sporadic shooting by suspected cattle rustlers along the route.
Sources said that the troops’ prompt intervention forced the suspected criminals to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding areas.
Troops subsequently discovered that the suspects had attempted to rustle five cattle belonging to Mr Yakubu Umar.
Following the incident, the troops launched offensive operations within the surrounding hills in an effort to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to prevent cattle rustling, protect communities and livestock owners, and maintain peace across Plateau State.
The military has continued to intensify patrols and targeted operations in vulnerable areas to deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate freely and prevent such incidents from escalating into broader security challenges.
